WIESBADEN – In the whole of Germany, a total of 7,458 professional qualifications acquired in a foreign country were in 2012 recognised as being fully or partially equivalent to the relevant qualifications acquired in Germany.
The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that 10,989 applications for recognition in accordance with the Professional Qualifications Assessment Act (BQFG) were received by the competent authorities in 2012.
By far the largest number of the recognition procedures concerned health professions. Not less than 6,837 of the 7,458 positive decisions concerned that group of professionals, among them 5,121 physicians.
